I had the amazing opportunity to go to a conference in the Philippines. The timing worked out and God kept confirming I was supposed to go, but other than knowing how much cross-cultural workers need encouragement I wasn’t sure I had anything to offer. I traveled with what I usually bring, plenty of coloring supplies and colored pencils, because crayons can melt that close to the equator, and lots of fabric, thread, sewing needles and scissors, along with a few hundred fabric yo-yos, my current favorite thing. I had no idea if anyone else at this conference would have any interest in spending time doing either of these things with me. The first night I started bringing out what I had brought and spreading them out on tables and the woman leading the conference got excited and said the people who usually provide activities couldn’t come this year but she was really hoping something like this would happen. I got to be an answer to prayer just by being me! And then God took it even farther. The women at the conference took my yo-yos and started making hair ties for all of the girls and women there. We just kept searching for more hair ties in our luggage. Then one woman took the idea with some fabric back to her village and is showing women how to make them when they come to the medical clinic where she works. This gives them an opportunity to talk together. I love how God uses us when we don’t know that we have anything to offer! Be brave and follow the Holy Spirit’s prompting, even when you feel inadequate!
