My first trip home from college in Tennessee to southern Indiana I had a car wreck, hydroplaning right into a car stopped on the interstate in the first rain we had in six weeks. The air bag crushed the nerve in my left thumb and broke a bone in my right hand, but kept anything worse from happening during the sudden stop. The bone I broke is the joint right below the pinky. It is such a tiny joint that it doesn’t even have any cartilage. But over the next few weeks I learned just how important that tiny piece is. Things like carrying laundry and vacuuming were not just annoying but painful. Any time I carried anything in my right hand or took notes in class it was painful. I had no idea how important that one tiny bone was! And our little part to play in the Kingdom of God is important too.

If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 1 Corinthians 12:26-27 NIV
