When we were living in Indonesia, we filtered our well water into 5 gallon jugs for our water cooler. One morning, we woke up to water all over the floor. Jason took the whole water cooler apart, cleaned everything, made sure nothing was broken, and put it back together. A few days later, the same thing happened. Five gallons of water makes a gigantic mess! As Jason was getting ready to take the water cooler apart again, we moved the jug and realized it had a crack in it. We had assumed the problem was complicated, but it was actually simple. We had three water jugs we rotated through, and one of them just wore out. How often do we do this as we seek God’s will? We try to make it super complicated and technical. Or we get fixated on the only solution we can see, and try to force that way to happen. But Jesus told us what the most important thing is in Matthew 22:37-40: “Love the Lord your God with all you heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” I’m asking God to show me one way I can follow His will today.
