What can I control? Have you ever had to forgive someone who wasn’t repentant? When my husband worked as a jail officer, a man who had just been convicted punched him, literally lashing out in his frustration. Jason needed stitches and had quite the black eye. He still has a scar on his forehead, just in case, every time I make eye contact with him, I might ever forget that there are no guarantees in law enforcement, or life as a whole. It took several weeks to be able to pray for this man by name, knowing how that altercation could have ended. With God’s help I was able to forgive this man, not for his good, but for mine. Holding onto bitterness and fear would only hurt my family and my walk with Christ. Romans 12:18 tells us “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” I am slowly learning what I can change and what I need to let go of, for my own peace.
