Does Proverbs 31 stress anyone else out? I was talking about all the chores listed in this chapter to my husband, and he said he thought I was succeeding. I actually laughed out loud because I thought he was making a joke. I looked at the dirty dishes in the sink and the dog hair tumble weeds on the floor. Then I looked at my husband and realized he wasn’t laughing. He told me that what he needs most from our home is predictability and stability. In his job, he never knows what he will encounter or when he will actually get home. But he does know that when he gets home, there will be some sort of dinner, relative quiet, and a predictable schedule. Calm is what my husband needs most from me, and that makes it possible for him to go out into a world of chaos. I don’t have to be the perfect spouse, and I never will be. I simply need to talk to my husband about what he needs most, and do my best in Christ’s strength to provide that. Have you asked your spouse lately what they need most? Or shared with them what you need most? Proverbs 31:11-12 tells us: “Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.”
