Living on the equator was hot. Just hot. All year round. On the 4th of July and on Christmas day. It got old and monotonous, so the challenge was to find things to appreciated. One way that this constant heat made my life easier was by making the water out of our filter hot enough to activate yeast, which made bread making easier and faster. The second way the heat made my life easier was in yogurt making. We didn’t have access to fresh milk, and our girls didn’t like powdered milk, so I constantly made yogurt to get some calcium in them. Instead of needing a yogurt maker or having to keep the oven on, our kitchen was warm enough to grow yogurt when I wrapped it in a towel and put it in a cabinet. 1 Timothy 4:4-5 sums it up nicely: “For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.” Even equatorial heat.
