After working for two years to pay off our school loans, with a whole lot of help from family and church family, we were ready to apply to Mission Aviation Fellowship. We moved to cheaper and more central housing for fundraising, both quit our jobs, put most of our belongings in our Taurus, and started driving to California. After several long days of driving, from Indiana to Georgia, then on to California, we were stopped for the night in Arizona. We both suddenly lost our nerve, wondering what we were doing driving across the country with no guarantee of passing MAF evaluations. We prayed, then went back over all the ways God had directed and provided for us, and as the list grew long, we were reminded again of just how clear God had made our path. We continued calmly, knowing that whatever happened in California, we were right where God wanted us. If we had given in to panic and returned to our stable jobs, we would probably have more money and less grey hair, but we would have missed a front row seat to watch God work in Indonesia, and we would have missed the joy and freedom that comes with total reliance on God.

1 Corinthians 2:9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” – the things God has prepared for those who love him.
