I love the movie The Prince of Egypt. As I watched it again, I was struck by the tools that Moses uses. In God’s instructions to Moses on how to perform miracles in front of Pharoah, Moses only uses the tools he used as a shepherd, his cloak and his staff. God uses Moses to bring a nation to its knees and deliver Israel, with only what Moses brought with him; the tools Moses always carried with him. The same is true of David when he fights Goliath.
So, what tools has God given me? I use my childcare skills at church, even though it is not my favorite thing. I get to use my writing skills to write our women’s newsletter. I use my minivan to drive my girls’ friends to church with us when they want to come. I use my time to pray for my girls and my husband as they go out into the world using their own talents to be a light for Christ. None of these tools are particularly awe-inspiring, just everyday, and a little worn, tools. But they are practical and useful.
What do you have that you can use for God? I think sometimes we make serving God so complicated that we talk ourselves out of doing it. Pray about how you can use the “tools” you already have to serve today!
