“No longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God.” As soon as this chorus by Zach Williams started at the end of last Sunday morning’s service, a siren started on the road outside. God was calling me to a decision: would I believe this biblical promise that He had made, or would I dwell on the siren, paralyzed to do anything but wait and see if it meant someone was coming to tell me what had happened to my law enforcement husband. It felt like the book end of a time 21 years before, when God asked me if I was following Him to the mission field, or Jason. God only asks us for promises that are for our own good. 21 years ago, God was asking me for a commitment, but this last Sunday, He was reminding me of His promise. My choice is what to focus on In my small group earlier that morning, we studied Acts 23:11 “The following night the Lord stood by him and said, “Take courage, for as you have testified to the facts about me in Jerusalem, so you must testify also in Rome.” Which of God’s promises is most meaningful to you right now?

Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
