The very first thing I learned from my now teenage daughters is that I do in fact have anger issues. As soon as I lost some sleep and all control of my schedule, there it was! Which means I have learned how to let some things go, in order to avoid a complete meltdown.

The first fun thing I learned from being a mom was a book recommendation. I love to read, and we were on a first name basis with everyone at our local library, going at least twice a week. And I vividly remember when my oldest daughter was in 3rd grade and recommended a book for me to read – a mom win that filled my heart!

They also help me remember how to be generous with time and money, how to care for friends who are hurting, and that the most important thing about our home is that it is available, peaceful and God-centered, not spotless or magazine worthy. Another mom win was when my youngest told me she was noticing how some people made things more peaceful and others are always creating drama and tension, and she wanted to help her stressed out friends.

Most of the credit for this goes to the Holy Spirit working in their hearts since they asked Jesus to be their Savior during VBS (vacation Bible school), and a fair amount of credit goes to those in our church family who have shared their time and their faith with them.

So, to sum up, parenthood is a beautiful way to learn all kinds of things, and to teach something every once in a while.

Philippians 4:9 NIV
[9] Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Good post. As a parent of now adult children, we learned the kids heard us better when we lowered our voices, and used examples of our own challenges. Keith
