I have finished Gabriela Clove and Cinnamon by Brazilian Jorge Amado, and learned a lot about the economic history of Ilheus, as well as the challenges of women of that era.
I have continued my journey to the UK with Pearl by Sian Hughes for my 8th book of Around the World in 80 Books. I am just starting this book so I will share what Google says about it:
“Pearl by Siân Hughes is a Booker Prize longlisted debut novel about a young woman, Marianne, grappling with her mother’s disappearance when she was a child, using the medieval poem Pearl as a touchstone for her grief and search for answers, exploring themes of memory, loss, and family secrets in a rural English setting. The story follows Marianne as she tries to understand her mother’s choices and her own future, paralleling the poem’s themes of loss and consolation.”
I love getting any recommendations you have for international authors! And I love to hear what you are reading too.
