What happens when we do this? Fear disappears. We don’t settle for the familiar comfort. We don’t focus on what God has called others to do, just us.
This thought brought to mind the lyrics from the hymn Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus by Helen Lemmel:
“O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.”
I have been thinking a lot about hymns lately. I knew I would I would miss family, ham and bacon when I went to Indonesia, but I had no idea how much I would miss worship. We learned hymns and praise choruses in Indonesian, but Wycliffe is right, there is something about worship in our heart language. I still don’t take it for granted, even though we’ve been back since 2013.
Such powerful words, anthems, challenges that we declare together! What is your favorite hymn?
“The members of the redeemed Church should be bound into a bundle of love with the Holy Spirit. The truth is that God never fathered His Church apart from the Holy Spirit. We should be anointed with the Spirit. We are led of the Spirit. We are taught by the Spirit. The Spirit, then, is the medium—the divine solution—in which God holds His Church.” Tozer
John 14:26 NIV
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
