Ever have those times when you are driving and both the sun and the rain are blinding you at once? They are both supposed to be blessings, but they only feel that way when they arrive one at a time. But coming together is the only way you get a rainbow.
Rainbows are about the only thing I still get little-kid excited about. I love watching them for as long as they last, and getting a photograph if I can.
We saw the rainbow in this photo on a college trip for my oldest daughter, right as we pulled into town. It is the most vibrant rainbow I’ve ever seen! We were all so encouraged.
That is, until the next day, when we arrived at the college campus and were told all the visiting policies had changed, and we would not be able to visit the campus or take a tour. Then we were just frustrated and confused – to drive here had been planned for months and had not been a short trip!
As we drove back to where we were staying, trying to make some sense of what God was doing, I clung to that rainbow. I had no idea what God was doing (and still don’t), but I do know that God was reminding us of His promises. I have no idea what God has planned for my daughter’s future, but I do know that they are good plans, plans to give her hope and a future. And for now, that needs to be enough to keep us moving forward.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
