Matthew 2:1-2 NIV
[1] After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem [2] and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

I always thought about the wise men as some old, rich, strange men who’s gifts made it possible for Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus to flee to Egypt. But reading Joy to the World Daily Advent Readings by John Piper has made me reconsider them. They were the first rulers to kneel before Jesus, and the first Gentiles to interact with Him, coming from other nations, which Matthew goes out of his way to point out. So many prophecies being fulfilled!

I love how a story I memorized in high school can continue to surprise me with the layers of God’s plan.

What about the Christmas story has gotten your attention this year?

It is amazing how a scripture you’ve read many times suddenly comes alive in a new way. Proves that His Word is alive!
