Language school in Indonesia started us out like a preschool class. The first thing I remember is learning the alphabet names, how to count, and a song about hats of different shapes.

Then we moved to the other part of being a preschooler, learning manners. I think the most important, most useful word I learned came from this category. It was ‘terima kasih,’ thank you.

I needed help constantly in my new world, and sincere gratitude helped.

What do you think the most important phrase to learn is?

1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Mexicans were so gracious in trying to understand us and help us when we lived there. “Thank you” is so important, followed by “please.” Frankly, “where is the bathroom” is crucial too. 😉
