I was going to read The Alchemist next, but after a bit of research I realized that the author, Paulo Coelho, is Brazilian. I have already read a book from this amazing country, so I moved on to Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes, from Spain.
It is a very long but entertaining book that I first read in a humanities class. I am now in Ethiopia with Abraham Verghese’s novel, Cutting for Stone. My favorite quote so far is:
“Life, too, is like that. You live it forward, but understand it backward.”
According to Google, it is: “an epic family saga praised for its vivid storytelling, deep exploration of medicine, and themes of family, exile, and healing, becoming a New York Times bestseller and a popular book club pick.”
I am not too far in, and it is extremely discriptive for me, someone not cut out in any way for the medical field, but it is intriguing nonetheless.
What are you reading? Where should I go next in my literary trip around the world?
