The church I attend has been going through Philippians, with an eye to discovering the secret to joy. This last Sunday we looked at this Scripture:

Philippians 3:20-21 NIV
[20] But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, [21] who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Then we talked about our view of Heaven, and how we can have joy even when faced with death.

Have you listened to the song Homesick for Heaven by Phil Wickham? If not, I recommend a listen! I particularly love the line: “To hear the angels praise, can you even imagine?”

Paul understood that Heaven will be amazing: Philippians 1:21-23 NIV
[21] For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. [22] If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! [23] I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far;

The missionary Jim Elliot said it this way: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”

True joy is knowing that no matter what we are secure in the shadow of His wing! (Psalm 91:4)

What do you think?

    To be with God for eternity is indeed a joyous thought, but like Paul we are torn in our desires to be with Him or to enjoy the many blessings we have in our earthly homes.
