I got to go to a very bookish place!

It is a very cool place with a reasonable tour fee. It has an incredible amount of family items because the women of Concord made their husbands buy the property to preserve it after the family had passed away (women couldn’t yet own property).

I learned some new facts. Louisa was the army nurse who got sick, not her father..

The sisters’ names, in order, were Anna, Louisa, Beth and May.

May painted a face on one of Beth’s dolls that you can see there.

Beth’s first piano, a melodian, is there.

All artwork in the house is by May except a  portrait of Louisa by the same artist who painted a portrait of Lincoln currently in the White House.

Louisa’s favorite animal is the owl.

May (Amy) had a painting featured in Paris.

Louisa’s dad made her a desk for serious writing, which women were told they shouldn’t do at the time because they weren’t mentally strong enough.

If you ever get the chance to go, I highly recommend it. Photos weren’t allowed on the tour, but there is a good video on their website.
