This verse has become a focus in my life as my daughter is starting her senior year. This verse comes after Isaac has been actively looking for the place that God has for him, the place He promised Abraham’s descendants.

The first couple of places he tries don’t work out because the locals don’t want to share the water, even though Isaac’s servants dug their own well. Then this happens:

Genesis 26:22-23 NIV
[22] He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, “Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land.” [23] From there he went up to Beersheba.

Then the do not fear verse:
That night the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.” Genesis 26:24 NIV

This was Isaac’s response:  Isaac built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord. There he pitched his tent, and there his servants dug a well. Genesis 26:25 NIV

God knows that we need leading, and we need reminders. We don’t really build altars these days since we don’t need to make sacrifices, so what should we do to remember?

My daughter keeps a journal. I like to keep a record here. How do you remember what God has done for you? How has God confirmed His will for your life?

    Very enlightening. I keep a record here also. I share with my elder son, so he can add mine to his. Thank you for sharing this.

    I keep several journals. One is just for prayers. 🙂

    When one more door has closed from view,
    And still the path seems strange and new,
    God’s quiet hand will lead us through.

    He gives us room, He calms our fear,
    And lets His faithful voice draw near,
    Until the way at last grows clear.

    So build the altar, trust His plan,
    And rest within His guiding hand;
    He knows the place where you will stand.
