“It’s all right,” he said. “Don’t be afraid. Your God, the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks; I received your silver.” Then he brought Simeon out to them. Genesis 43:23 NIV
This verse was 22 years in the making, since the last time Joseph saw his brothers. The brothers had no idea what was actually going on, and when they finally did understand, their fear got worse:
Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still living?” But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence. Genesis 45:3 NIV
But Joseph was able to see the whole picture: And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. Genesis 45:5 NIV
Sometimes we are fearful of dangerous things, but sometimes we are fearful because we can’t see the whole plan. God has recently brought some things in our lives full circle, bringing people and skills that have grown dusty back into our lives.
It is a little scary for my husband to change careers again at this stage of our lives, but God has just lined up too many things for us to not take the leap. God has slowly revealed the next pieces of our path, some of which He started constructing 20 years ago, and it has become clear that not walking forward onto this very intentional path would be disobedient.
When has God asked you to trust Him when you couldn’t see the whole picture? When have you been able to see how God has been constructing your path when nothing seemed to be happening?
