I have started reading 90 Miles to Havana on my 80 Books around the world journey, which I didn’t realize was written for  middle-grade students. But, as C.S. Lewis said, a children’s book that only children like is not a very good children’s book. And technically, most of my favorite books, Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, the Little House books, and the Lord of the Rings books, are children’s books, so who am I kidding!

I am enjoying it so far, about 10 percent in. According to Google, it is a:

“historical fiction novel written by Enrique Flores-Galbis and published in August 2010. Plot Overview: The Departure: Set during the early 1960s, political unrest forces Julian’s parents to send him and his two older brothers out of Cuba. The boys travel alone to Miami as part of a real historical mass exodus of unaccompanied children leaving communist Cuba. Life in Miami: Placed in a refugee camp, the brothers face a harsh new reality. The Conflict: Julian must learn how to survive aggressive bullies, deal with profound homesickness, and figure out how to protect himself and his brothers.”

Along this bookish theme, I also submitted a book proposal to an agent group for a historical fiction book I have been working on for a couple of years now, which is both exhilarating and terrifying! I am praying that God will do whatever He wants with it – I had fun writing it if that’s all that ever happens 😂
