“Do not show partiality in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of anyone, for judgment belongs to God. Bring me any case too hard for you, and I will hear it.” ”
Deuteronomy 1:17 NIV

At first I thought this passage was about decision-making, which it is, but God showed me it is also about having a mentor, someone to take things to, who is mature and can give us godly wisdom.

During my time in women’s ministry, mentoring was the hardest thing to provide for women. I think part of this is that our enemy really doesn’t want us to have these life-giving relationships. But it is also a challenge to structure opportunities for organic relationships to form. 😂

So how do we do this? I still don’t really know, and want more of this in my life. And I need to invest more in making this happen.

But I have learned two things:

  1. This takes time. There is just no way to have this instantly.
  2. Serving helps create these relationships. There is just something about doing a practical task together that deepens these relationships.

Do you admire someone and want to know them better? How can you serve with them? Who do you already serve with that you would like a discipling relationship with?

What do you think about this verse and how Jethro helped Moses figure out how to lead the Israelites well? What have you learned about mentoring?
